New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are one of the NBA’s original franchises, founded in 1946 and playing at Madison Square Garden — “The Mecca of Basketball.” That New York spotlight makes the Knicks one of the strongest team collector markets in basketball cards: a huge, loyal fan base chasing both today’s roster and the franchise’s championship legends.

The Knicks have won three NBA championships: 1970, 1973, and 2026. Willis Reed captained the two vintage titles, was named the 1970 NBA MVP, and delivered the sport’s most iconic single moment when he limped onto the Madison Square Garden floor for Game 7 of the 1970 Finals, scored the game’s first two baskets, and inspired the Knicks to their first title. Walt “Clyde” Frazier ran the backcourt for both vintage championships, made seven All-Star teams and seven All-Defensive teams, and has stayed part of the franchise for decades since as its television broadcaster. Two-way forward Dave DeBusschere — an eight-time All-Star acquired from Detroit during the 1968-69 season in a franchise-altering trade — anchored the defense, and Princeton product Bill Bradley filled out the frontcourt after a Rhodes Scholarship delayed his NBA debut following the 1965 draft. Earl “The Pearl” Monroe joined for the second title after a 1971 trade from Baltimore, pairing with Frazier in the celebrated “Rolls-Royce Backcourt.” Reed, Frazier, DeBusschere, Bradley, and Monroe are all enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame — vintage rookies of this five-man core, nearly all from the 1969-70 Topps “tall boy” set, are the cards that anchor the franchise’s vintage collector market.

Fifty-three years later, Jalen Brunson delivered the third: the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs four games to one in the 2026 NBA Finals, the franchise’s first title since 1973, and Brunson was named Finals MVP. The legends: Hall of Fame résumés

Patrick Ewing was the No. 1 overall pick in 1985 and spent 15 seasons as the Knicks’ center, making 11 All-Star teams and leading the franchise to the 1994 NBA Finals. Bernard King was drafted seventh overall in 1977, joined the Knicks by trade in 1982, and led the entire NBA in scoring in 1984-85 — including a 60-point game on Christmas Day 1984 — before a knee injury cut his New York prime short; he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. Together with the 1970/1973 championship core above, that’s seven Hall of Famers whose careers define the franchise’s card history — vintage rookies of any of them, in high grade, are the cards that hold value across decades.
